Wood Park Second Graders Harvest Tower Garden Crops
Kelly Lund's second-grade class at Wood Park is headed home with a healthy first course for dinner.
Roughly six weeks after planting various types of lettuce as well as arugula in the school's tower garden, the students harvested their crops on Tuesday afternoon.
Students each received a family-size portion of lettuce as a result of the bountiful harvest to take home to their families and consume after thorough washing.
Lund's class is the second at Wood Park to enjoy the planting-to-harvest experience. Next up is Danielle Sanseverino class, followed by Nancy McGeever's second graders.
Tower gardens allow for growing in limited space, which can be particularly beneficial for people living in sittings where farmland is scarce.
The tower gardens are a new feature at the district's primary school's this academic year.
