BOE Meeting – November 14, 2024
Dear Commack Community Members,
We welcome you to attend the Board of Education Meeting on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The Board of Education will convene at 6:30 p.m., at which time it is anticipated that the Board of Education will make a motion to adjourn into executive session. At 8:00 p.m., the Board will hold its Regular Business Meeting. The meeting will be held at the Hubbs Administration Building, 480 Clay Pitts Road, East Northport, NY 11731.
The district will be presenting a comprehensive update on the significant security improvements implemented across our district over the years. As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety and security of our students, staff, and community, this presentation will also include a discussion on the topic of armed guards.
The presentation will cover key security initiatives that have been implemented, including:
- Installation of pass-through windows to enhance controlled building access
- Implementation of door-ajar sensors in secondary schools, with plans to expand these to elementary schools
- Upgrades to our security infrastructure, creating a more resilient base
- Addition of security vehicles to provide consistent coverage across all school buildings
Following these updates, a representative from our security consulting firm will provide insights into the option of armed guards. The district will then share an overview of what a potential armed guard model could look like for Commack. This will set the stage for an informed discussion on this important aspect of school safety.
Your input has been valuable in our shared goal of maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment. Thank you for your partnership in supporting our schools, and we appreciate your continued involvement.
Board minutes and any presentations and photos are posted on the Commack website within a day or two following each meeting.
The meeting will also be livestreamed on the Commack website so that the public will be able to view and/or listen to the meeting. Please note that speakers will be limited to three minutes to adhere to the district’s policy.
Sincerely,
The Commack School District Board of Education
