Burr Has First Star Sighting of School Year
Before third graders participating in the Burr Mini-Marathon began to navigate the course on Wednesday morning, superintendent Dr. Jordan Cox took the microphone to make a special presentation.
Dr. Cox awarded Burr physical education teacher Tracie Morenberg with a Commack Star award for her dedication to the district and its schoolchildren.
It marked the first Star Award presentation district-wide of the 2024-25 school year.
The award honors district employees who go above and beyond in their roles every day.
“Tracie has been a constant positive role model, teacher, coach, colleague and friend in the Commack community for the entirety of her career,” Dr. Cox told the third graders and their families who were present for the race. “She is passionate about her many roles here in the district, and she contributes endlessly to our school’s events and programs — putting in extra hours to organize field trips, fitness challenges and community health initiatives.
“Her efforts have brought the Burr family together, creating moments that both students and families cherish — including this event, the Burr Mini-Marathon.”
Morenberg has been a physical education and health teacher in the district for 30 years. She served as dean of the high school for nine years earlier in her career.
Morenberg also is a longtime CHS volleyball and track coach, and previously coached soccer.
In fact, her undefeated league champion Cougars varsity girls volleyball team is the undefeated league champion and enters the postseason on Friday by hosting the Brentwood-Lindenhurst winner.
