CHS teacher Carmelina Zitarosa (pictured second from right) was honored for her outstanding contributions to Italian language and culture education on Monday by the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America and Suffolk County Executive Edward P. Romaine at the William J. Lindsay County Complex.
The midday ceremony also recognized Gregory Caggiano, Elisa DiStefano, Biago J. Isgro Jr., Luisa Potenza and Dave Anthony Setteducati.
“We are incredibly proud to have Carmelina as a member of our teaching staff in the Commack School District,” said Barbara Olivares-Lazcano, Commack’s director of world language and ENL, who attended the ceremony. “Her passion for sharing the beauty of the Italian language and culture is truly inspiring, and she has made a significant impact on her students and the broader community.
“As a talented educator, Carmelina continues to foster an appreciation for Italy’s rich history and traditions, enriching the lives of those she teaches.”
