Please check out the May edition of the Northwell School Mental Health Newsletter. It's Mental Health Awareness Month. This edition includes information on joining workshops addressing school avoidance as well as navigating conversations on puberty, consent and sexual health.

Please be reminded that Northwell Behavioral Health Center is more than a resource for a person in crisis. The highlight of the services offered is that they assist families to find providers (doctors, therapists, psychiatrists, and more), who take their insurance. The center is exclusively available for students of partnering districts and is located at 2171 Jericho Turnpike, Suite 345, in Commack.

Boys Tennis Earns Fourth Straight League ...
Another day, another four-peat!

For the second time this week, a CHS team has claimed its fourth straight division title.

This time, the boys tennis team achieved the honor — joining the boys track team, which captured its fourth straight league title on Tuesday.

The Cougars expect to receive the No. 2 seed in the county tournament among the more than 20 teams that qualified.

CHS earned a bye for the opening round, which begins next week.

Individual singles and doubles competition begins Saturday. Ultimately, student-athletes who reach the county tournament’s semifinals become all-state players and advance to the state championships.

CHS Welcomes Class of 2028
The CHS Class of 2028 toured their soon-to-be-home as current high school students from the Scholar-Athlete Leadership Club served as tour guides and assorted staff and students spoke about academic and extracurricular opportunities.

At the  Eighth Grade Transition Night on Wednesday evening, the soon-to-be CHS freshmen got a lay of the land while hearing from the mock trial team, music groups, TV and audio production studio, counseling center, ASL language classes and other areas.

Mack, the CHS mascot, even made a cameo appearance.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians heard from administrators in the auditorium.

"Your freshmen are going to have a great experience," vice principal Matthew Keltos told the families. "This is a great place."

CHS Freshman Selected County's Teen Poet
CHS Freshman Selected County's Teen Poet
CHS freshman Sarah G. is Suffolk County’s Teen Poet Laureate — only the second student ever to hold that title.

Three years ago, county legislators created the role for a student to spearhead opportunities to bring poetry by and for young residents into the community as a positive force.

While enrolled in the CHS English elective Writer's Workshop, Sarah completed her application material for the Suffolk County Teen Poet Laureate Contest. The entry packet included a letter of recommendation, a curriculum vitae documenting leadership and civic engagement, and a portfolio of three poems, each no longer than 60 lines.

As a finalist, Sarah attended an interview panel. And on May 1, she sat before the legislature to confirm her appointment.

On June 1, she will attend an event at the Walt Whitman Birthplace Center to celebrate the beginning of her term.
